Setting Switch/Router Banner

Posted on July 24, 2009. Filed under: CCNA, ICND1 break down | Tags: , , , , |

Both Cisco Swich and Router can be configured to display messages with command “banner” under global configuration mode.
There are four banner types:

  • MOTD (Message of the day) — Displayed first
  • Login — Displayed before the login promp
  • EXEC–Displayed after login, before the router prompt
  • Incoming–Displayed for incoming lines(reverse Telnet)

Use the banner command to set the banner text. Separate the text with a delimiting character.

Router (config) #banner motd #This is the banner.#
