#perl pattern matching example, dot metacharacter

$_ = 'A fox, a box, and an ox.';
#dot(.) stands for any character except newline
@matches = m/.ox/g;
foreach (@matches)
{
    print "$_\n";
}

Output:

1
2
3
fox
box
 ox
